I am thinking of buying a Boston terrier puppy, and I am looking for good books to help raise a nice puppy?

I want to have a nice loving and obedient dog which will understand basic commands. i have started to read “7 days to a house trained dog” am i on a good path?

i can tell you about everything you need to know about Boston Terriers. I have raised them and been around them my entire life. I own 2 and have been successful at breeding and producing Champion Bloodline Boston Terriers (to better the breed not for the money)
Boston Terriers were originally bred for fighting and were called the Boston Bulldogs which is why their have the short snouts, small erect ears, no tails and VERY thick skin around the neck. They are easily taught new things but the males learn quicker then females and are much less stubborn. Males are also a lot easier to potty train. They are VERY VERY loyal dogs and not to just 1 person…they can be loyal to the whole family. One thing to think about is if you have small children in your home you should be careful because their eyes can easily be harmed because they are much larger. Boston Terriers sometimes have allergies and sensitive stomachs so they should never be fed table scraps or eat cheaply made dog food. They are high energy dogs but can also be very calm and like to cuddle with you. They need quiet a bit of exercise daily. They should never be allowed to become over weight it bothers their hips. They really have no MAJOR health problems I’d say the most common health problem would be a sensitive stomach and their anal glands. You have to have them expressed at least once a month. The way their bottoms are made sometimes does not allow their glands to release when going to the bathroom so they need to be expressed. If not done they can become absessed and trust me…it makes a MESS in your house and smells horrid. They also can NEVER be kept outside. They can easily die of a heat stroke and they need water available at all times so they do not over heat. Buy form puppy from a GOOD breeder…It may cost more but trust me…you will be paying less in the future…Do not buy one from a pet store they are from puppy mills and most likely have many many health conditions. Find a reputable breeder that will allow you to see the parents, they have AKC papers, and hopefully parents are champion bloodlines.
