What is a better pet a cat or a dog or a parrot and why?

I am looking to get a pet. I am leading towards a parrot. Am I making a mistake? I think a cat or a dog needs more work. Am I right?

No. Parrots are more work than cats, and probably more work than most dogs as well. A cat is the lowest maintenance of those choices if that is what you are looking for. Parrots are very social animals. They like to be with you all the time and they need to have interaction and play. They do not do well if they are left alone for long periods of time, or don’t get a lot of interaction with you. They can develop stress-related issues like self-mutilation if you don’t spend enough time with them. They will bond very stongly to their owner. They also live a long time. It is not unusual for them to outlive an owner. They are truly a lifetime commitment. Think very very carefully before you get a parrot.
